My art is inspired by the moment, be it something I've seen, or experienced, or imagined. It can also be inspired by challenges set by others, such as commissions for specific subjects, like portraits and boats. I approach each painting on its own merit, adopting the style and technique that feels best for the individual subject.
My interest in painting started at an early age, gaining my first art prize at the age of ten. On leaving school, I attended the Bournemouth College of Art & Design where I was able to try my hand at pottery, experiment with charcoal and oils and study fashion art. This latter subject led me to fashion modelling and training at the Lucy Clayton modelling school in London. After a diversity of jobs, including singing with a dance band, beach photography and beauty consultancy, I concentrated my artistic efforts on painting!
My artwork has always covered a variety of media and styles. An early venture involved the production of a series of 3-D collages that were marketed through a department store. I have also undertaken a number of portrait commissions, including one of a local cricketer to commemorate his retirement! I have exhibited at galleries in London and the provinces, and provided artwork for use in tourism literature, charity Christmas cards and building society calendars.
Art galleries and exhibitions have proved a reliable outlet in the past, but the Internet is a great way of expanding the marketplace.
