Josephine Yardley-Thompson

I am inspired by human form and movement, the features suggestive of places, structures and architecture, their place in space and time, and the interplay of colour, light and shade. It is the intensity and mental images of my experience that forms the basis of my work presented as contemporary and semi-abstract paintings. Typically I work in mixed-media employing materials to add texture, shape and form, at times adding memory evoking emblems or impressed symbols and text, and I invariably employ a variety of techniques to apply paint giving colour and texture.

Whilst the works I create derive from inspiaration based on my own ideas and experiences it is the viewer who completes the cycle by interpreting the colours, shapes and forms in their own particular way. It is a very individual experience and it is that personal enjoyment and shared excitement in my paintings that I want to achieve.

I live in South-West France where I continue to develop my ideas with colour and form.
