Julia Sadovskaya

Born in Moscow in 1975. Initial art and cultural education received from her grandmother who was a self-made artist and writer. Began to draw at 1.5 , attended art school since she was 6 years old.

Graduated from Sankt-Peterburg Academy of Arts (1998). Has Ph.D in art history (2003) in the field of Christian Orient.

In 1993-2009 worked at the Grabar Art Conservation Center, first as an editor, later as a conservator of medieval manuscripts.

Took part in the creation of church decoration: frescoes and iconostasis (1998). Used to copy Russian medieval frescoes (1995-1998). Took part in a project on "Old Russian Architecture" for Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine Studies (USA) carrying out black-and-white photography (2002-06).

Nowadays Yulia is a free-lance painter and raises two kids (8 and 3.5 years old).

The stylistic peculiarities of Yulia's paintings could be defined as Metaphysical realism linked with some considerable tendencies of the 20th century, e.g. art by Giorgio Morandi, G. de Chirico, D.Krasnopevtsev, A.Wyeth. Besides, Yulia appreciates Paul Cezanne and John Constable as great masters and forerunners of contemporary art.

Some paintings by Yulia belong to private collections in Moscow, Peterburg, Israel, Ireland, Latvia.
